NATIONAL HEALTHCARE AND PUBLIC HEALTH RESILIENCE
The nation’s health sector, close to 90% privately owned and operated, is comprised of a vast network of sector and cross-sector infrastructures. Securing the provision of the nation’s health services and ensuring the public trust depends upon the sustainability and resilience of our national healthcare and public health critical infrastructure and all other interdependent critical infrastructures (Food and Agriculture, Water, Energy, Supply Chain, Communications, Financial Services, IT, Transportation, Chemical, Critical Manufacturing. and Government Services).
SECURING HEALTHCARE INNOVATION
As the healthcare community broadens integration of complex and interconnecting infrastructures to enable healthcare innovation, cyber vulnerabilities and attacks to gain control and do harm increase and enterprise risks continue to accelerate. The health sector is also facing unprecedented cybersecurity security and privacy regulatory challenges (HITECH Act, Meaningful Use, medical device security, data breach reporting, security audits and penalties for the lack of administrative, physical, security and and technical safeguards).
To achieve overall resiliency against all threats (all-hazards) – natural and man-made, and to preserve the sector’s ability to mount timely and effective response strategies to threats and vulnerabilities, moving from a reactive to a proactive stance requires a trusted nationwide public/private trusted partnership.
HEALTH ISAC (H-ISAC)
For each of the nation’s critical infrastructures, a designated private sector-led Information Sharing & Analysis Center (ISAC), recognized by their respective sector’s critical infrastructure (CI) owners and operators, federal sector-specific agency (SSA), Sector Coordinating Council (SCC), Intelligence Agencies, and the National Council of ISACs (NCI Directorate) are entrusted with advancing physical and cyber security protection by establishing and maintaining collaborative frameworks for operational interaction between and among members and external partners.
Health ISAC (H-ISAC)
H-ISAC is headquartered at the Global Situational Awareness Center, Global Institute for Cybersecurity + Research, NASA/Kennedy Space Center is the tactical and operational arm advancing national healthcare and public health critical infrastructure resilience – all hazards (cyber and physical) security intelligence situational awareness analysis and reporting, secure trusted two-way information sharing, countermeasure solutions, incident response, leading practice and education.
H-ISAC , a non-profit health sector-led organization is recognized by the nation’s health sector, the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the National Security Agency (NSA), FBI, and the National Council of ISACs (NCI Directorate) representing all national critical infrastructures.
H-ISAC is a member of the Health Sector Coordinating Council (SCC), Chairs the Health Sector Cybersecurity Legislation Committee, the Critical Infrastructure Protection Advisory Council (CIPAC), the US DHS Cyber Unified Coordination Group (UCG), and the National Council of ISACs (NCI Directorate).
