H-ISAC hosts Cyber-Top Gun Summit

Kennedy Space Center, FL, November 17, 2016 – The Health Information Sharing and Analysis Center (H-ISAC), a member-owned non-profit that is the health and public health sector’s trusted community for sharing cyber and physical security information, hosted its bi-annual Summit November 14-16, 2016

Members and attendees enjoyed several learning and networking opportunities with other healthcare information systems professionals to share information and systems in today’s information and cyber war.  The purpose of the summit is to gather intelligence on our adversaries, share vital threat intel and plans and costs of preventing cyber security breaches.  Over 40 sessions of numerous cybersecurity topics were addressed during breakout sessions, sponsored by various healthcare cybersecurity professionals.

Attendees received a keynote from General Keith Alexander (retired) CEO and President of IronNet Cybersecurity.  GEN (Ret) Keith Alexander provided strategic vision to corporate leaders on cybersecurity issues through development of cutting edge technology, consulting and education/training. GEN (Ret) Alexander served as the first Commander, U.S. Cyber Command (USCYBERCOM) from 2010 to 2014 and the16th Director, National Security Agency (NSA)/Chief, Central Security Service (CSS) from 2005-2014.

General Alexander’s address focused on the need for all stakeholders in our nation’s security services to work together. Key to that notion is the need to agree that Cyber Threat Intel Sharing is the objective…no personal information is being sought or exchanged. Until we come to grips with this reality, he felt there will always be suspicions of civil rights infringement.

H-ISAC launched its new website at the Summit.  Its revised content provides up to date news and press releases.  The new website will highlight H-ISAC’s latest regional workshops and newsletters.  Potential new members will be able to apply for membership through the new portal.

The website also includes a member portal for new CYBERFIT services.  CYBERFIT is a group of added security services, offered with H-ISAC membership, focused on reducing cyber security risks within the healthcare community.  It’s enhanced shared security services help evaluate cyber security posture, including third party risk assessments, penetration testing, vulnerability scanning, perimeter monitoring and incident/malware analysis.

The Cyber-Top Gun Summit provided an opportunity to enhance several of its services.  H-ISAC announced its newly elected members to the Board of Directors.  Working Groups met to further their discussions and collaboration.  New sectors for working groups and committees were identified through the networking opportunities at the Summit.  It was remarkable show of community within the healthcare cybersecurity industry.  Working together to keep the bad guys out and maintain the public trust in the continuity of healthcare for all.

H-ISAC– The Health Information Sharing and Analysis Center (H-ISAC), the official healthcare information sharing and analysis center, offers non-profit and for-profit healthcare stakeholders, such as: independent hospitals, IDN “providers”, health insurance “payers”, pharmaceutical/biotech manufacturers, laboratory, diagnostic, medical device manufacturers, medical school and medical R&D organizations, a community and forum for sharing cyber and physical threat indicators, best practices and mitigation strategies.
