Cybersecurity in the AI Era

Errol Weiss, Chief Security Officer, with a quote on sharing ransomware information to protect the community.

Across healthcare—from the operating room to the research laboratory to the administrative office—artificial intelligence has been a game changer by aiding diagnostic accuracy, accelerating medical research findings and automating time-consuming processes.

Pulled Health-ISAC quotes:

Share information on attack incidents
Organizations naturally might be reluctant to relay instances of a cyberattack. Yet sharing the information can be a strategic move.

“When one organization is hit by ransomware, being able to quickly share what happened with other organizations can help the community and prevent others from being impacted. More importantly for the victim organization, if there’s somebody else that’s been through this and figured it out, they can share recommendations with you to get back up and running much faster,” says Errol Weiss, chief security officer of Health-ISAC, an information sharing and analysis center focused on the resilience of the health sector. “We definitely learn from others.”

Weiss says the sharing strategy is similar to a neighborhood watch program. “[If] you see something happening in the neighborhood, you want to be able to help your neighbors out,” he says. “And that’s what it’s really all about.”

Health-ISAC is part of the National Council of ISACs (Information Sharing Analysis Centers), which includes about 1,200 member organizations globally that collaborate on defense strategies against cyber and physical attacks. The network of firms represent critical infrastructure, such as health delivery, medical device manufacturers, health information technology, insurance, pharmaceutical and consulting, according to Weiss.
