House Homeland Security leaders stress CISA’s role in responding to cyber threats from Iran strikes

House Homeland Security Chairman Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) and ranking member Bennie Thompson (D-MS) emphasized the need to grow the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and end the current shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security, in separate statements responding to the Iran strikes.

Health-ISAC pulled quote:

Health-ISAC chief security officer Errol Weiss told Inside Cybersecurity, “The stakes for the health sector are uniquely high when cyber and geopolitics intersect and moments like this underscore how essential a fully operational national cyber agency is for critical infrastructure. Any constraint on CISA’s ability to coordinate, share timely threat intelligence, and surge support to sectors like healthcare introduces additional risk at exactly the wrong time.”

“This kind of high-tension moment is exactly when you want your national cyber agency fully manned and fully operational. The ISAC community is still sharing information aggressively and doing everything to keep defenders ahead of the threat, but any reduction in CISA’s capacity introduces risk and slows the tempo of coordinated response at a time when we can least afford it,” according to Weiss.
