In Paris, Witkoff dodges hard US commitment to Kyiv

CYBER CONSEQUENCES: U.S. cybersecurity officials and organizations are preparing for potential retaliation against the Trump administration’s Venezuela operation in the form of attacks on critical cybersecurity infrastructure, our own Dana Nickel and Maggie Miller report in today’s Morning Cybersecurity (for Pros!).
Venezuela-allied countries like China and Russia are also longtime cyber adversaries of the U.S. — and could potentially take the opportunity to strike.
“Recent geopolitical developments in Venezuela, which maintains ties to both China and Russia, underscore the importance of heightened vigilance across all sectors,” said MADHU GOTTUMUKKALA, acting director at the Cybersecurity Infrastructure and Security Agency. Gottumukkala noted that though CISA isn’t currently tracking a “specific threat,” it’s still monitoring for potential cybersecurity threats and encouraging organizations “to treat this moment with the seriousness it demands and take proactive steps now to safeguard their systems.”

Organizations in critical U.S. sectors are also on the lookout.

“The Venezuela operation has put U.S. health care squarely in the geopolitical crosshairs,” ERROL WEISS, chief information officer of the Health Information Sharing and Analysis Center, told Maggie. “We are bracing for a potential onslaught of digital retaliation from Russian and Iranian groups targeting American critical infrastructure.”
