Understanding PAM in Healthcare
The report defines PAM as a suite of tools and processes that grants, monitors, and manages access to sensitive systems and data. Unlike broader identity and access management (IAM) systems, PAM introduces intentional friction to ensure only authorized individuals access critical resources. This friction, while potentially cumbersome, prevents devastating breaches that could compromise networks and exfiltrate sensitive data.
“PAM purposely adds friction to the process to ensure the greatest possible security,” the report stated. This helps ensure that critical information, like medication formulas or administrator accounts, remains protected from unauthorized access.
